About the brand
Oriental Mart has been successfully supplying the UK with Asian goods since 2006. Located in the heart of Nottingham, the company serves their loyal customer base through two bricks & mortar stores, click & collect service, and doorstep delivery throughout the UK.
The company has an online range of more than 3,000 products available on their successful website, orientalmart.co.uk. The business has 80,000 registered users and these customers often repeat their purchases due to the superior customer service and delivery experience. The company has excellent reviews on Trustpilot with 4.8 out of 5 stars and provides a tailored customer experience offering content translation in English, Chinese and Korean.
The challenge
Oriental Mart were looking to replace their bespoke legacy website with a new, modern platform that would allow improved opportunities for promotions, content updates and user experience optimisation.
Their existing site felt out of date and suffered from a poor user experience, with a non-standard menu layout and confusing checkout flow. Development progress was limited by an over-reliance on a single development team and no option to expand their offering with apps or extensions.
The brand had already selected Linnworks as their incoming stock management solution and needed a modern ecommerce platform which integrated seamlessly. What's more they’d made significant investments in SEO and a great deal of planning needed to go into the migration to be sure that hard won rankings were maintained.
The solution
We felt that a new Shopify-based super-fast Progressive Web App (PWA) would allow Oriental Mart to create a more exciting, fast and innovative shopping experience - while delivering the app-like functionality that their repeat customers would love.
The menu and navigation structure was reworked to feel more intuitive to ecommerce shoppers, while we designed a new improved checkout experience to match their complex requirements.
As well as being a key enabler of their unique checkout experience - something that wouldn’t have been possible on standard Shopify - Oriental Mart’s new Progressive Web App will deliver loyalty-enhancing benefits like offline browsing and push notifications. It’s a fast, flexible and future-proof solution that leverages widely-supported and expandable technology - enabling the brand to grow and delight customers long into the future.
